Actually having owned Quad II's and various other tube amps inc ARC, EAR,and some French exotics I can honestly say that Quad II's produce a not unpleasant "antique" kind of sound, somewhat soft but with a nice bloom. I am not knocking them but I'm sure that the Tannoys would grace something a little better, something single ended perhaps. The other post recommending the new Quads is right on the money. The original stereo Quad control unit that matched the II's is a museum piece I'm afraid- delightful aesthetics but I have never heard a fuzzy stereo image float around the room in different directions like that before or since. Search and avoid.
