74db/w is VERY insensitive yet it was "EASY to drive', and the active version" The BC1A included a built in 25 or 50 watt amplifier. "
IE about 14 dbw or 17dbw.
Which would give maximum peaks of 88db and 91 db!!!!!!!, which is nowhere near enough to use it a monitor, even at the BEEB.
My memory is that the BC1 was 'a bit' less sensitive, surprisingly, than the Celestion Ditton 15, an 8-inch reflex (PR) equivalent, with a HF1300, all in a smaller volume.
And the 15 NEVER needed more than 50 watts. I would think about 15-25 PP watts will be enough in a small room, listening in the near field, well, it was enough for me and the Ditton 15's.
SET?, well, damping ability and the high side of 10 is going to be needed and then there's bass and Q!
The BC1 is a 'potentially' boomy spkr, especially on Vinyl, and especially in a small room, it could do with a 2nd order high pass filter with a bit of loss (damping) at fb.
OTOH, there are probably heaps of physical acoustic tweaks, with a similar outcome, to the port, like a bit of added baf or long-fibre-wool at/in the ports entry (inside). or > ing the length to > damping.
The BC1 is wonderful on FM, DAT, R2R, and CD, in medium to large rooms, where the SP1 series, and later cousins, will need more boundary proximity.
