I was certainly one of those who listens at "low to medium levels". Nevertheless the few times I cranked my F's up to sustained 90-95 dB levels I wasn't disappointed (using the PL 400).Within my own, more limited listening parameters, I agree with your observations about the F's. And I very glad to hear of someone still using them. (According to Ohm's current web site, the F's are reaching the end of their life cycle due to deterioration of materials.)
On the other hand I don't agree about the PL 400 having "anemic, sloppy bass". Granted, I'm not comparing it to the likes of your Kinergetics. It does have tighter bass than the NAD C270 to which I switched quite recently.
