I've got a pair of these. They may be tube friendly with respect to smooth impedance, but they are inefficient--85 or 86 db. Not for SE 2a3 amps. I've tried 'em with Quad IIs, a homebrew 300b, and some vintage Eico and Scott gear. Best overall sound I was able to get out of them was with a restored Scott 299c (p-p 7591s, ~30 watts). The 300b amp was very nice as long as the program material wasn't dynamic--ran out of steam with symphonic works and R&R.
I think Spendor makes a version of the 3/1 that is ported, with a slightly larger enclosure. It is several db more efficient and may make a better match lower-powered tube gear.
