But an equalizing control can be made to hinge wherever the designer wishes, & to boost or cut as slowly or rapidly & to whatever extent the designer wishes. The problem with the Quad solution is that it makes no provision for a recording needing, say, boost at both frequency extremes. Then again, anything short of a full parametric or one of the fancy new digital devices is a compromise, at least from the point of view of frequency-aberration correction. But, much as I admire Quad, I have a notion that their design was intended to protect what they viewed as "overly enthusiastic" listeners from producing noise. I think I should have a right to soil my living-room sonics however I wish.
