'm having my a vintage Eico preamp worked over by a tech friend and have just decided to eliminate the feedback loop and tone controls entirely -- it's kindv'e a risk in that i won't be able to bump up the low frequency when the volume is low or tone down any simbilance or shimmer in the upper mids and highs -- but i've never listened to a preamp with no tone controls and have heard that the benefits and "naturalness" reproducing the source material are worth any of the negatives -- only paid about $100 for the preamp so we'll see -- i'll be able to weigh in with a real opinion after i've listened -- good post -- regards, marc
