Thoughts on priorities

My little ratio observation wasn't an attempt to say that recording pack rats were better or worse than gear nuts, as I think I pointed out.

Some people like to tinker with, say, damping everything in sight. More power to them, if they're having fun and not spending so much money & time that their kids are starving/neglected. It's a fun hobby, so why not?

Others enjoy the quest for the "perfect" performance of the Bach Saxophone Concerto in P minor. Great! It's probably a lot healthier than trying to find that "perfect" rock of crack down in the bad part of town.

The point is that while *I* may think someone who spends kilobucks on, say, cables has rocks in his/her head, I can accept that everyone has different reasons for being in this hobby. There's a lot to choose from, after all -- gizmos, pretty woodworking, loud noises, etc..

My only real dislike is the occasional audiophool who looks at a stereo system as a means of social climbing. This is human nature, of course, and happens everywhere.
