After being on audio forums noting all the passionate responses you get from people about their choice of speaker(or other componants) over a competitor(s) I think we get lost in the technical over the musical.Audiophilia is basically a love for gizmos. Music is secondary to a lot of audiophiles in much the same way that driving a car is secondary to the paint job for many hot rod nuts. That's OK -- whatever makes people happy sounds like a good idea to me.
For my own part, I used to make my living in audio so I retain some professional interest in the latest & greatest gizmos ... but not so much of an interest that I'll spend much more than the ~$1300 I have invested in my modest two-channel system.
One good measure is the ratio of dollars spent on gear vs. stuff to play on it. It's about 1:4.5 in my case, but I bet a lot of folks are in the 1:1 range or less. I won't pass judgement (to each their own, as noted above), but it does give some indication of where one's priorities are.
