RE: Long Time Listener, First Time Caller - Advice Needed

So, first things first.

The output voltage of the cartridge on the turntable is very, very small. So small in fact that it needs its own special amp before it hands off to the next link in the audio chain. Your Pyle is that phono preamp. The next link in the chain is usually another active preamp or passive attenuation device. The choice between active vs passive is a discussion for another day, but the primary functions of either approach is a volume control and the ability to switch between multiple source components. This intermediate device, whether active or passive, would then hand off to a power amp capable of further amplifying and providing the alternating current needed to drive a speaker.

It sounds as though you'll need that intermediate active/passive device, a power amp, and speakers. You might want to look at Schiit. Not joking, but I think they were when they named the company. Their Vidar power amp has gotten a good deal of recognition lately and it should have power and flexibility to drive most any speaker you might choose. They also offer active as well as passive pre's.

In trying to picture your setup in my mind, it sounds as though smaller bookshelf speakers might be in order. I would look at the PSB Alpha B1, the Elac Debut 5 or 6. There are others and I'm sure folks will chime in with all manner of suggestions. Others will also hopefully chime in with additional electronics suggestions that are high up on the bang for the buck scale.

Edit ... you may also want to consider stands for the speakers. It's not a good idea to co-locate the speaker with the turntable. The cartridge on the turntable will pick up the vibrations of the speakers (not good) if they are physically on/in the same piece of furniture. I also did further reading on your Pyle. Output from it is not sufficiently high for you to use it with a passive. Maybe look of a good integrated a pramp/amp combo at your local Goodwill if want to keep things on the real cheap.
