I bought a budget pair of speakers a few years back which was reviewed by a reputed reviewer and was recommended by him.I was totally disappointed by the sound. But then I was driving it with a humble HK and not the Mark Levinson. No big time cable either. This made me wonder if I could improve the cable and get better results.Buying another amp was out of the question.I tried a friend's QED but no improvement. This made in China speaker (but designed in UK which was prominently written on the cabinet) could not be improved.I concluded that there are seconds among the speakers and I got one of them.Who knows, perhaps thirds among those coming out of China.
Now I have another budget speaker which I listened and compared to a few others at home and found to be better.Even better than the famous PSB Alpha B1.Now I thought I could improve the sound by going for a better cable. As you and Ozzy said, new cables may not improve things on budget systems. But it is a challenge. The Boston Acoustics RS 26 sounds quite good with the RS cable. Some tiny improvement in these recession times will hopefully bring me out of the depression brought on by listening to speakers like Klipsch Synergy B3, Acoustc Energy Evo One and the PSB Alpha B1.Speakers on which Bruce Springsteen and U2 have speech defect. And Joni Mitchell has Sinusitis.
