Advice on speakers in the under $500 range

Im moving into a small aprtment at the end of the summer which means no more big speakers. So im looking to put together small system for around $1000. Im planning on using my PC as the main source and I will be purchasing either an inexpensive usb dac like th DIY Paradise USB Monica or a decent soundcard such as the EMU 1212m but for speakers and amplification im not so sure. There seems to have been a big improvement in the sound quality of inexpensive speakers in the last 5 years or so and there are alot of choices in my price range, heres just a few of what I have come across in my research so far.

B&W 686

Any others i should add to the list??
