RE: Amp for KEF 104AB?

104ab is a hard-sounding speaker...not very supple and although full-bodied, they are somewhat edgy. aging t27 tweers are a nasty piece of business and tend toward the cold and spitty. of all the bextrene drivers, the b200 tends to be the most dry and unforgiving. thus said, i would suggest a very warm tube amp....maybe a 6v6 based rig. you won't be able to turn them up super loud with a low powered tube amp, but it will work at moderate listening levels. these speakers are not very efficient. they want power. likewise, the drivers are actually pretty fragile and easy to smoke. a 30 wpc tube amp is probably just about perfect. for solid state, the original AR amplifier or receiver might be a great match. so would the NAD 3020 or 7020.
