Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: Thanks for the (second) sales pitch ...

Actually, Big Dave, you bring up some insightful observations. No, I haven't heard them. My brother has. I trust my brothers hearing 100%. He is most likely going to purchase the Model 3. I haven't heard them yet, so I will make my decision at that time.

Second Sales Pitch? First, I have nothing to gain by any of this. I thought that the benefit of an audiophile bulletin board service was to share pertainent info. Information normally not known to others. Let me, Big Dave, share an example. My family has a friend that is a well repected Doctor who lives in Honolulu. He has purchased a custom built CJ style Jeep that (minus the motor and other obvious components), is made of Stainless steel. Even the brake calipers are made from solid billets of stainless steel. Did you know that there is a facility in Salem, Oregon that produces such vehicles? Tube frame, all stainless steel construction. Custom made wheels, stainless steel construction. Nearly every part is stainless. Do you hear about this in 4 wheeler magazine? How about any other off road or automotive magazine? NO, you won't. They are a specialty shop, making VERY EXPENSIVE custom Jeeps for those who 1) can afford it 2) have the desire or need for a rust free vehicle with 700 horsepower. Do I, or more importantly, should I hate my friend because he can afford it? No. My point, I didn't know that such a vehicle even existed. My friend shared this info with me. While it isn't the vehicle for me, my friend is VERY enthusiastic, very thrilled to own such a vehicle. The same is true with my enthusiasm regarding a new speaker from Magico. I was only trying to share my enthusiasm, my passion with others. Yes, Big Dave, even with you. This is a small production company, known only to those in certain circles. Some higher production comapnies have within their budget and marketing to advertise in the audio magazines. To many in the hobby, the magazines are their only source of information. As stated earlier, you wouldn't know of the Stainless steel jeeps if you only sourced information from magazines. They don't advertise. Perhaps with their limited production and high quality, specialty build, they don't have to? (Word of mouth advertising, once again within certain circles).

Initially it hurt that you, and perhaps others, would feel that I was acting as though I had financial gain by sharing my enthusiasm. Folks get into this hobby out of passion. Tell me one guy that can't get into a 5 minute story about his first exposure to decent audio, or the first system purchased? I'm sure that many of us find them as pleasant stories to tell. Or, tell me a guy that doesn't have trouble sleeping the night before a new component makes it way into their listening room. (I know that I do).

I'm happy to hear that we share a passion for Jazz, maybe you aren't all that bad either. I'll try hard to tame myself down.

Peace,
Brian
