His company was wiped out by a flood!
Living in Florida, we see Hurricane Victims flee after their homes have been destroyed, especially if their Insurance does not cover their losses.
Had it not been for the flood IMHO, Von Schweikert would have been one of the "big three" high end speaker builders.
The original VR 4 was setting sales records, and still commands respect today, many years later. What would YOU have done, sit in a flooded factory with unusable wood and drivers ?
The market speaks, just watch how many older VR 4's "sit" on AudioGon if they are priced right, and shipping can be arranged ?And, Albert still honors warranty claims on his old speakers, even though he is not legally obliged to do so.
Try calling Jason Bloom of Apogee and getting a rattling ribbon fixed, LOL
Or call Jim Strickland, ex of Acoustat, when a transformer melts in your old Acoustats.
The answer might be "sorry, that company is out of business"!
Even though THEY are still "alive and well".
I bought some used VR 4's off AudioGon, and I blew a tweeter, MY fault.
Albert replaced it, for free!
That's what I am talking about .....
