This afternoon, I listened to a guy's Mini's, and, to tell you the truth, I was less than impressed. For 20k, I expected A LOT more. He had them paired with Wavac 833 amps, Wavac preamp, and Esoteric transport/DAC combo. It was very nice sounding, to be sure, but I didn't think the speakers were doing anything particularly spectactular. In the context of that system, they were very detailed and acceptably dynamic, but not especially musical--which surprised me, given the presence of the Wavacs in the system. My good friend, who has heard both the Ultimate and Reference, has been less than impressed. And he's heard just about every SOTA speaker out there. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. They're very attractive speakers, though. No doubt about it.
