To the OP: For lots of reading on the Ohm Walsh line, see A-gon, in the forums, for the huge thread on the Ohm Micro Walsh Tall. As an owner of the Walsh 2000s for about three years now, I can say that I am thrilled with these speakers, and with Ohm as a company. John Strohbeen, IMHO, knows how to voice his speakers, and is very accessable.
As to the omni nature of the current Walsh line, I believe the Walsh driver itself is a true omni, but John intentionally places a barrier on the rear of the driver to attenuate the radiation from the rear. This was done, among other reasons, to permit placement closer to the front wall. When I walk behind my 2000s, I hear the music through the upper mids, but the highs roll off. As for the directional tweeters, obviously John made some cost/design decisions that meant the speakers are not omni above the 7kHz area. I don't listen much off axis, so I can't say for sure, but many owners enjoy the "wide sweet spot" of these speakers. For a true omni, you're talking a much bigger price tag than the current Ohm line. I kinda look at my 2000s as a poor man's MBL Radialstrahler. There is an omni add-on super-tweeter out there that at least one Ohm Walsh owner has added to his Ohms with positive results.
Also, while the Ohms will sound okay with moderate power, they come alive with huge amounts of power. I have an Odyssey Audio HT3 amp with cap upgrades, 150 watts per, and I figured that woudl be enough, especially since I cross the Ohms over to powered subs, first order, below 80Hz. But I recently had the opportunity to borrow a nice pair of Arion Audio RS500 Class D amps, at 500 watts each, and, holy cow, the Ohms came alive. Now I am on a quest to buy these amps or something similarly beefy. Another Ohm owner uses the Bel Canto Class D amps at 500 watts per channel, and he, too, swears by the benefits of massive wattage for the Ohms. I am not familiar with anyone who uses tubes with them, but I would bet a very powerful (and expensive) tube amp, like the big Carvers or the VTLs, would work well. A 25 watt Jolida, as sweet an amp as it is, not so much.
But I think I may have bought my last pair of speakers. Three years in and the honeymoon continues. They get better every time I improve the room or my electronics.
