RE: HHR Exotic Speakers

So, by your definition, an electrostatic speaker that has a cone woofer is no longer a di-pole? Or if a di-pole panel is married with a dome tweeter is would also no longer qualify, even if only a small portion of it's operating range isn't equal in both planes? I doubt that would be your interpretation, but I see no difference when talking about an omnidirectional design. I can't say John told me they were omnidirectional, it didn't come up. I don't recall Ohm making much of a deal out of any of their models, As, Fs, or any of the Walsh line being omnidirectional, they generally just pushed the time alignment of the Walsh principle drivers. Yes, they certainly have pushed the modifications done to improve imaging, and room friendlyness, but that's to be expected. I don't think most folks are looking for a "true" omnidirectional speaker because of their known room difficulties, so Ohm wisely chose to modify their speakers to limit some of the dispersion characteristics. I don't think it would be a good marketing direction for a large volume speaker company to have taken... particularly after so many "Omnis" were thrown out to marker in the seventies, most of which were more gimmick than audio advancements. That the Walsh speakers don't broadcast equally in all directions, but still do significantly, and by design, through most of they audible range, surely must qualify them as "Omni".

I could argue this endlessly, but we seem to have very differing ideas of what would constitute an omnidirectional speaker, so I don't see the need to toss this back & forth any longer.
Let's just "agree to disagree".
