Yeah, but they are, in fact, dipoles throughout their *full range*, from top to bottom whether or not they employ back wave damping. Current Ohms don't even *pretend* or claim to be omni directional throughout their range as the directional tweeter above 7 kHz audibly attests. Heck, Ohm's website makes this abundantly clear.
As an Ohm Walsh owner you also know that you must specifically place the left speaker on the left and the right speaker on the right, due to the highly directional tweeters which are designated left and right. That is still another clear disqualification that they are omnis. They have a "sweet spot" that, while not nearly as pronounced as direct radiators, is much more defined than any omni.
Again, current Ohms are a two way speaker design with *neither* driver being omni directional. Even if you say that one of the drivers is inherently omni (before the back wave obstruction) which the Walsh drive most certainly is, the driver that handles the higher frequencies is decidedly directional. There is no way around it, the sum of those parts equates to a speaker that is not an omni.
You kinda imply (but don't say) that Mr. Stohnbeen confirmed for you that your speaker was an omni. That would directly controvert, the facts, the Ohm website and what he has told me. Give Mr. Stohnbeen another phone call and ask him directly whether current Ohms are "omnis".
