Home Speaker Asylum

General speaker questions for audio and home theater.

Re: Shootout? Just kidding...evaluation time?

I admit that it would be a fun comparison. All of the speakers in the group are very high quality and well designed. You seem to really like the sound of the VR's and my friend Ron loves his Quads. Like you, he is a very experienced audiophile who has owned several high end speakers through the years. He says the quads are his favorite to date. This was a bit of a shocker because I heard his Paradox 1's (on his older system which has been subsequently upgraded) and thought they sounded very good.

While it is true the 1801's may have more lower end output, we would not be evaluating that part of the presentation. There are several speakers with more bass than any of the ones in the test that I would not say are superior. Heck, you can go to Best Buy and get speakers with more bass than the Ellis, Quad, etc., that are inferior. It may come down to personal tastes. I wish you could have been to the Audiojerry test. That, IMO, was not a matter of personal taste. There was a clear-cut winner, again, IMO (and jerry's). I would like to do this test before I send my AVA off to AVA for upgrading. I've received several emails from people stating the upgrade is very significant and the EX version of the amp is vastly superior to the HC version that I have. I can't imagine this amp sounding any better, but we'll see!

Email me with a date and we will put this together.

Jack
