I have them set up for near field listening, 6' from the back and about 3' from the sides. I have not tried them on shelves. On my Target 24" sand filled stands they sound fine. The Plinius 8200mk2 is more cool, dry, dynamic and the bass has more authority. But there's something magical about tubes. More 3-D holographic imaging with the tubes.
