There are protection boards available for the Quad ESL-57. I believe Quad put them in a few years before ceasing production, but an easy search on the internet will find more.
The Quad ESL-63 has overload protection--it is said to short out the amplifier input, which may not be good for some amps. I never tripped the protection with a Quad 606.
The McIntosh MC300 is rated at 300 watts, so it might be able to trip the protective circuits in the ESL-63.
