well listening to the AN system on digital that you hate versus your opwn system without digital is not comparing an apple to an apple. Other than the AN cd player most digital is sounds very much the same -- I was unimpressed with the Mark levinson cd player Krell amplifier Wilson Sophia set-up (well unimpressed for the money). it's odd I know of two owners who traded the Quad 57 in for the AN E. One of whom is on this site and had stacked 57's. Actually I know of two others if you count DR Cope and Peter Qvortrup. But that;s why we all have our own taste -- if you like something better that is fine. I can tell you that the NEW quads at hi-fi center with the ultra pricey front ends IMO don;t hold a candle to the AN E to my ears. It's hard to imagine that the new quads would be so vastly inferior to the old 57 -- but i suppose it's very possible in this industry -- when a designer leaves or dies or the marketing department takes over. I have been told by people that the 57 lays a world of hurt on the downright terrible 63 -- if that's the case then I'll be open.
Until I hear the 57 it's all a moot point. I have heard the current Quads I heard Apogee duetta when it was still in business I heard big Legacy speakers ML Oddysey and Prodigey and Magnepan.
Eventually I will be buying a second system and I have no problem buying and reconditioning older speakers.
The AN E is designed for a corner placement near wall. The Soundhounds room is the antithesis of that. In the corner I can tell you without hearing your Quads that bass will murder the Quads -- after all this owner bought a second set and tried to use a sub and still the E/SE is the way he went.
I can be convinced, I used to be on here defending in endless threads a particular speaker and people here convinced me to TRY something else and I had to eat crow. I don't mind eating crow if I get better sound or "as good, but different" sound.
