Re: Quad ESL57 amp matching

I have used SE and PP EL-84, PP EL-34, PPP EL-34, PP KT-88, SE 300b,
PSE and PP 300B, SE 807, SE 6A5 etc....but of what I've tried..the quads sound better to me with a SE fet (Zen), or what I'm currently using....an Electrocompaniet ampliwire 2.
Their reactive/capacitive load is no easy match for a low powered non feedback tube amp.. (although Heath W-5s can sound "charming"). UA1s also shockingly good and don't forget to try integrated amps with tone controls, loudness etc...My ESLs are about 6-8" off the ground on homemade stands...they are frustratingly beautiful spkrs.Have also tried the Gradient 57 subs and Decca ribbons but like them best by themselves. Wish I could hear a stacked pair.
