Re: Klipsch Cornwall II not in my tastes.

Something to consider with the cornwalls. The efficiency and horn loading hides no detail. If something upstream is aggressive, the Cornies will report that fact. The output of horn loaded tweets and mids are much more intense, and must be treated carefully.
I do not believe that these were designed with solid state in mind at all. PWK was a tube fan through and through. The solid state available during the cornwalls era [1969-1980 was pretty abysmal.
There are mods available to ?tame? the cornwalls, but the best thing to do is use clean solid state [monarchy se-100 and pass aleph, and gamut come to mind] or better yet, tubes all the way.
Regardless of preference, tubes will net better overall results.

IMO, any tube will sound better than the legacy > cough < Coda > cough < amp on the cornwalls. Get a tube integrated if you want to go cheap.
