Re: Thanks, my cj is the CAV50. Will this work?

No, the integrated won't do the trick. Yes, the 45 is a lower power tube (1.6W), but many prefer it to the more lush and romantic 2A3 or 300B. Doc has a parafeed 45 design that was in the late '97 or early '98 VALVE. I'm building a 2-stage direct-coupled 45 with the WE471A in the driver stage. I'll use it to drive 104 DB sensitive horns from 800 Hz up. And this circuit can be optimized for the 2A3 with the change of cathode bias resistor and output primary Z. A 45 should work fine with the Avantgardes.

Or you can go with Doc's Paraglows and play around with 2A3s (tho' that will get "spendy": as Doc says;-)). They are great amps and will do a great job on the Avantgardes. Wouldn't take much (if Doc's willin') to change the Paraglows into the parafeed 45 as a kit. He's got all the parts, but you would likely have to construct from his schematic since I don't think there's a manual. Also I think I read on the website that he will build 'em on a custom basis.

Unless you prefer the sound of the 300B, it's almost overkill on the Duos. With their efficiency, you will not get out of the milliwatt range unless you are fond of visits from the local constabulary responding to neighbors' noise complaints. Of course, there's the 10 and 10Y, the 50, the 1626. Thing is, when you have a pair of high efficiency horns, there are a bunch of low-powered triodes you can play around with, and since the last couple of hundred Hertz are handled by the powered sub, you really don't have to worry about the tube's deep bass response. have fun.
