Why new, when a used pair of Large Advents would be a perfect match and right in your price range? Even cheaper and maybe as good would be Avids like Avid 102 or 103. Another nice option would be AR 2ax
I would suggest EPI but they tend to run on the low side of 8 ohms and I have seen Sansui receivers connected to EPI disintegrate. YOu could even go later generation Advent like a Prodigy (smaller) Or a Legacy(bigger), or something like a Boston Acoustics A-100
