It's relative. When I think about the 6SN7, I think of a tube that is good for its type... but it is its type: a smallish IDHT. Best driver tube (debatable), for a small IDHT. Low distrotion, for a small IDHT.I'd take an EML20AM/B over a 6SN7, for my purposes... but I don't have the constraints that many (commercial) builders do. I don't need it to be small, (relatively) inexpensive, easy-to-implement, tube-roll-friendly and widely available. I can prioritise sound quality.
I hope to use the 20AM/B in my next build; probably monkeying to another DHT. Should be fun.
Just my 2c and preferences.
