RE: What is my next move?

I have a pair of Vandersteen 3A's that was upgraded many years ago to the Signatures. Only problem is I lost the paperwork but a company in New Jersey did it because it was factory authorized by Vandersteen to allow it. As in yours and any others using the drivers of that size in a multi driver system using a complicated crossover(worst night mare) you need POWER to drive them even though they are the smaller version. I feel you are going in the wrong direction(I'm sure it will be challenged)with this. Vandersteens need real power. Not flea power. You'll get sound but not sound if you know what I mean. Adding more gain is not sound. You can over drive the amp if not careful. When it comes to power slob speakers Vendersteen's are in the league of Thiel and Wilsons, or any speakers of that nature. I am also not a favorite of using flea power with horns unless it is just for the horn. That big woofer needs power to control it.

SET amps or small powered amps serve a purpose but there is a difference in efficiency and sensitivity.

Depending on the speaker POWER is the word and yours are power hungry. It is better to over drive than under drive.

But you can run just the midrange and tweeter with your amp. Just don't let the amp play lower than 200-150HZ. Any lower and you are draining the amp.
