If one thinks in terms of a SET map being a modulated power supply and that current loops are the (main) signal path, then cathode bypass caps are important... possibly more important than coupling caps, for example.
You're right - high voltage films can be large! I've allowed for that in my next build: caps mounted to Delrin platform below the cathode resistors. This increases the signal path length, but allows ventilation, damps/dissipates vibration, keeps caps away from the metal chassis and components hence avoiding parasitic capacitance, and allows space and easy access for experimentation.
I've ClarityCap MRs purchased for my next build, though am thinking that Audyn Reference or ClarityCap CMR might be more to my liking. On one hand, I think that these three caps are more alike than different and differences are likely small. On the other hand, I noticed significant differences between a Mundorf M-Cap and Evo Oil... and not in the way I expected at the time. I learned that I don't want a cap with emphasised upper-mids/treble bypassing a direct-sounding DHT in a resolving system.
