This is a common DIY problem. I would suggest getting another power tranny. Anything you do to drop the voltage will basically work against a good result.

A choke input will only take about 10%. In addition the Choke input, you can go with 5Y3 type rectifier, which have the most drop of typical rectifiers found in audio amps...the 5Y3 is better suited for guitar amps (IMHO)..throw in a hefty bleed to ground to pull more current (more voltage drop)...

You can look for an EL84 variant like the 7189 which has a higher max plate voltage...

Get another power transformer...;> )...I have replaced power transformers after trying the kind of stuff stated about after hating the results.
