it is the first time I ever heard of an intentional positive feedback being used. Of course, solid state op amps have nearly infinite open loop gain whereas triodes have limited open loop gain, so this may be a unique occasion of something that shouldn't work, working because of a triode shortcoming. Nevertheless thanks for your patience in pointing this out - I'll not forget the lesson!
