Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

RE: No need to be insulting and condescending -

If you believe that article why do you own the Wright Sound Mono 7s?
I wanted to hear first hand what low powered amps and high efficiency speakers had to offer. I first had the Cain & Cain Abbeys mated to the First Watt F1 - not overly impressed. I then bought the Wright DHT SET Mono 7's after reading much ado in the SET Asylum. The results were better, even enjoyable, but not up to the standard of any of my other systems. The 2A3 PP Melody amp driving Zu Essense is more involving and dynamic. But neither of these can compare to the realism projected and dynamics produced by either my Emotive XPA-1's driving Magnaplanar 3.6R's or the Musical Fidelity 550K's driving my Revel Salon 2's. I cannot not decide which of these two high powered systems I like best, but the low powered tube systems are far down on the list.

Tube amplifiers with output transformers put limitations on how much FB can be applied. I'm not sure how much of the information in the article is applicable.
My Marantz 8b sounds better than the Wright 7's. It is of course a classical Ultra Linear (fb from an output transformer tap) design.

Lynn Olson writes,

"Norman Crowhurst wrote a fascinating analysis of feedback multiplying the order of harmonics, which has been reprinted in "Glass Audio," Vol 7-6, pp. 20 through 30. He starts with one tube generating only 2nd harmonic, adds a second tube in series (resulting in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th), and then makes the whole thing push-pull (resulting in 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th), and last but not least, adds feedback to the circuit, which creates a series of harmonics out to the 81st. All of this complexity from "ideal" tubes that only create 2nd harmonic!"

The interesting thing to me is that you own single ended DHT amplifiers.

Do you not hear their superiority compared to your other amps?

You can play the same music on all of my systems and walk from room to room. No one with ears would prefer the low power/high efficiency speaker systems.

If not, what are you doing in the SET Asylum?
I pretty much ignore the SET Asylum these days, but the subject of this thread caught my eye.

Edit; I just looked up the Musical Fidelity 550K Supercharger and read what it is and how it's used.
My heavens, what did you read? - it is just a very competent high powered ss amplifier that happens to have a voltage divider input so you can use low powered amps, such as my 5 watt EL84 Glow One Amp, or my 35 watt pp Marantz 8b, or the DHT SET Wright Mono 7's to drive a high quality low efficiency speaker such as my Revel Salon 2's. It's a lot of fun, but I usually use the 550K's as an ordinary ss amp with inputs from my Cary SLP-03 preamp as this is most satisfying

You and I are on different planets when it comes to audio reproduction.
I have your planet here in my home to sample - it's a shame that you do not have my planet in your home to sample. Maybe you would not be so emphatic in your stance on amplifiers!

There can be nothing gained by continuing this conversation.
That's your assessment, not mine! But as I said before, quit asking questions if you do not want to hear from me!
