It would provide a variety of grid-plate spacings to increase the nonlinearity, for those who like lots of second harmonic distortion... :^)
Smile noted, I have often thought about this. Most power tubes have some sort of "embossing" in their plates. Are the effects of this non even spacing (dissimilar tubes in parallel) really predominantly 2nd order?
