Single Ended Triodes (SETs), the ultimate tube lovers dream.

Re: commercial and DIY

Listening to Lamm and Wytech were singular experiences for me - real epiphinies. They are a big part of the reason I decided to redesign my system around a SET / high-efficiency direction. I am confident that an amp of this caliber, combined with appropriate speakers, would provide me with long term satisfaction.

On the other hand, I have this strong desire to try my hand at creating something, actually building a unit myself. Even if it is only a kit. I am at a fork in the road, where one path is to purchase a near SOTA SET and plug it in, or I can get my hands dirty and build, at the cost of possibly not achieving near SOTA results. For me, part of the satisfaction will come from learning a little bit about how this stuff works, and then perhaps I will better appreciate a commercial designer's intentions and objectives.

The ideal, naturally, is to build something AND buy something, then compare the two. Hmmm, interesting idea!

Again, thanks for your input!
