Hi Dick, I think the your question re using other versions of 845 have been answered pretty well by others, save the old 845M dubbed as 845C which has a lower power rating. The 6N8 doesn't require biasing unless you particularly want to change the operating point but biasing the 845 is easy should you need assistance.I can help you with a circuit diagram, just let me know if you'd like me to email it to you.
