It may be that the Welborne's are showing up the weaknesses of the ProAc's. I speak from personal knowledge. I also seduced by the sound of SET's originally by a combo of Cary-ProAc. This led to my buying some ProAc's to go with PP tube amps. Over time, I discovered that the ProAc's tended to be somewhat thin harmonically, with a somewhat bleached sound (I found them tiring to listen to so sold them) - the warm mids of the Cary's combined with the fat bass and rolled off highs made up for what I feel are the weaknesses of the ProAc line (I have heard a lot of them).
I have Welborne Laurel's and they are quite revealing amps. If there is a family sound, then your Moondogs probably don't have nearly as much warmth in the mids as the other PP amps you have had (my experience also).
