"repeat after me: tubes will never die. say it until enlightenment dawns. it DOES NOT MATTER how good solid state gets, tubes will never die. if you don't get it, there's no point in explaining it. all i can tell you is i lost interest in listening to music when i got rid of my tube amp lo these many years ago, and got busy with career etc., and then i realized i was really missing music, but i just don't enjoy music via solid state. i have a very nice solid state bose system, and i could frigging care less. i listened to an old record over an old tube amp at a friend's house, and it was like a lightning bolt through my brain. my emotional centers went: "oh, yeah, now i remember. it's FUN listening to music through tubes." don't know why, don't really care. just can't wait to get my 300b finished."

Nostalgia may be a partial block that gets in the way of allowing people like us from giving new ,maybe solid state technologies a fair shake? I grew up listening to a Sansui 1000 tube receiver that my father (in the service) brought back from Japan during one of his tours of duty. Like most, I got away from tubes back in the late 60s through much of the 70s. When I finally heard a good tube amp/preamp combination, it reminded me of the sound that I grew up with when learning to love music.

So, I am trying very hard to put aside my learned prejudicies against solid state and preferences for tubes. If I find myself lost in the music, then it won't matter if it is amplified by tubes or ,in this case, a JFET.
