Paul S. and other responders,
I needed to hear/read your thoughts prior to performing a typical narrow viewed straight line review. Paul, I absolutely agree. The A-08S "May" outperform the F-3 driving Lowther back horns ,but, like you stated, the Lowthers' at their best may not allow the whole truth to be revealed. For me the magic window presented by the DX-4/Medallion III combo isn't quite enough either. Thats why I have two corner loaded subwoofers for 50hz nd below.
I also have a pair of 89 db 1 watt B&W N 805's which used to sound pretty damned good driven by a 14 watt Pilot SA-232 or Eico HF-86 (gotta love those little 6bq5's). I also want to try and incorporate a 15" dual concentric into the mix since Yamomoto sells an Altec like version in reflex and open baffle (driven by the A-09S and their other amps). Will the Yamamoto sound better than the F-3 with and or without subwoofers driving the Lowthers? How about both driving a 100 db 1 watt 15" coaxial, or even the N 805's at moderate volumes. There are lots of possible viable combinations. Help me think of more.
