Bigtube,I am certainly far from a SET expert (sad to say, I've accepted that I probably will never make the time to undertake a DIY SET project), so I can only go on my experience of listening to commercially available SET amps.
1
If I want to attempt some sort of meaningful comparison between low -v- high power SETs, surely at the very least, they should use the same output valve and similar topology.
2
If one can accept the above, then the only way to get more power out of the same output valve, is to double it up, into a single ended topology and not, a push/pull design.
3
As far as I am aware there is no other design, providing higher power from the same valve that is more closely related to SET; than PSE.
4
Whilst I have always assumed a parallel single ended SET employs a different circuit (to a straight single ended design), to my ears it is perhaps the only relevant way to draw any meaningly comparison because such low/high amps.I would be interested to know what factors make an SE -v- PSE amp comparison less relevant than comparing two SET amps with different output valves and vastly different topologies...
