wasn't pentode developed to gain more power and that was the only reason?triode can first, then pentode, if i'm not mistaken.
some pentode modes sound, by comparison to triode, almost as bad as ss.
but the eico hf-81 which is good sounding pentode. but my eico hf-20 monos which have been trioded wired sound better.
so it seems that triode always wins.
