It likely isn't your amp, Jack G. is right; you have a very fine amp.The 845 is a Fantastic Triode, even the Chinese version can sound great. Important with the 845 is the Driver. The 845 is linear and will amplify the sound of the driver so get the BEST sounding tubes to put in front of the 845.
It might be the speakers, but I have heard an 845 amp that blew me away when hooked up to my Home-brew 87 dB Scan Speak MTM's. Granted they are an "Easy Load", no cross over, just the 2 Revelator mid/woof's hard wired in series for 16 Ohms, and a series cap for the tweeter. But I preferred the sound of the 845 on these horribly inefficient MTM's, when compared to my beloved Goodmans 301's. The Goodman's make that "SET Magic" with every flea-power 45, 2A3 or 300B amp I have heard in my system.
