thanks, yes i agree with that. removing the output transformer has a remarkable effect with speed, and wide bandwidth. i have mine paired with a pair of ribbons speakers, and the effect seems to even double with speed and detail. it just sounds good from top to bottom.but i did come to the surprising conclusion that the emotion left with the transformer. (but then again, push-pull does not seem to have much emotion either.)
it's very elusive to determine the emotional capability of the amp. becuase it is confounded by the emotional content of the music itself.
so what i did was to use music that i knew was emotionally grabbing, and see how i felt using the three different amps, an otl, a push-pull triode, and a 300b set (the sf amp).
i came to the understanding that the emotion really didn't enter until i used the set amp (i had played the other two first). it was only one direct observation, for what it's worth, but i had been noticing that about the 300b set previous to that.
