it seems that the 300b is not for all occasions, and that the push-pull amps, of which there are many, have their place and virtures too.as i'm been replacing my vintage push-pull amps with sets, i figured i was going to do the same with an eico-hf81 in a system that i have set-up in an exercise room. it's a place that i move around and i don't sit down too often to listen there.
i played the hf-81 first. it's been in that location for about 2 years. it's the reigning champ in that room. then i put the sf 300b there. i was listening as i was going in and out of the room. to my surprise, the 300b definitely did not sound as good. it sounded higher and brighter and it seemed to lack body to play the hip-hop, club type music compared to the hf-81.
the 300b, as stated in the previous post, is ideal for a deep relaxing room. the set sound is ideal in an intimate type of engagement with the music.
