Seriously though, so what if a few DIY posts filter in here. I don't see anything wrong with that per say; it surely isnt worth policing it heavily unless it becomes a techno-haven with no room for the new loon looking for more mundane amp info from manufactured amps. Of course, this place has been rather stagnant as the new buyers of SET amps, whether new or used, dont seem to be coming out of the woodwork like days past. There is surely not much talk of subjective opinions of sound or of the different topologies and what the outcome is relating to the actual music and sonics. I evisioned a bit more of this and it has not come to fruition; at least as much as I thought. Ultimately, I hoped for more subjective opinions on various amps and how they actually sound with real music, be these DIY circuits or manufacturer offerings. IT used to be a healthy balance.I think the DIY Asylum has worked out great and as the freak that sort of got that unfortunate ball rolling with an off the cuff post months ago, I had to bear the brunt of those not wanting a split. At the time, I dont think I really wanted a split either but was hoping for a more balanced selection of posts with real world assessments of circuits with music combined with great DIY info and tips (sorry for the redundant nature here...I am too lazy to rewrite after reading).
I have to admit, this place sure doesnt have the character and interchange it did before the change. The DIY Forum is really healthy however. You dont see to many newbie types looking for info on their first SET in there. Then again, you dont see too much of that in here, either.
I still think a SET Asylum should be maintained for the stray loon wanting to know if that Wright Sound, Fi, Welborne Labs, Sun, Cary amp will be his cup of tea. This kind of fiend might wander into the DIY Asylum and be befuddled with a discussion of plate curves and Phase Shifts in Output iron. Still, that wont be a bad thing either if they learn something....and everyone learns from this discussion.
IT is all evolving. Who knows where it will end up....
