Re: Thorsten's 300B taste test...

I think Thorsten's (and group) experience with the JJ/Tesla 300B, is largely divergent from the much greater body of those who use and thoroughly enjoy it. While stating: "some will work better in some systems than others" (300B tubes in general), there may be a stronger lacking synergy in the system/s used for this shootout. Whatever electrical, acoustical, or subjective divergence one might theorise, or speculate? I have used the JJ/Tesla uninterrupted (I own two pairs) for two years, in my Assemblage amp. And it has never failed to boat my float. Through numerous changes in different MC carts, phono tubes, interconnects, speaker cables, speakers (mag.midbass/tit.tweet 2way, RavenR2/Focal7K 2way, and my current Fostex FE168Sigma 1way) they have remained joyously musical (with no problem of a loose mechanical glass envelope/ceramic base). Unlike my experience with the Sovteks, which sounded like a P/P 6550 (and none of the 300B magic), or the Chinese which offered better tonality (and a little of the 300B magic). The point is: that offering a general caveat of 300B tubes on one hand, and a general exclusion of this tube on the other, does a real disservice to those whose systems might well and truly shine with this tube. That of course doesn't mean I won't try the meshies at some point in the future (after a myriad of other tweaks/upgrades). Many thanks to the big guy for the supreme effort, Peace, Elmo.
