What's a "backyard DUIer"? Is that driving under the influence in your backyard? Sounds like fun.
On the more serious side, the simple 2A3 is a great starting point. I built the 45 version and I continue to mod it. Some mods made improvements and some not. It's a good learning process to find out what sounds good to you.
