Another thing you might want to check is see how much the sound changes when you swap the two speakers (moving each speaker to where the other was). The sound should not change at all. If it does noticeably change, it might be that one of the drivers (or maybe one of the tweeter crossovers) is defective. This too would cause soundstage problems.
It could also be a case where you have both full-range drivers wired correctly, but one of the tweeters is wired backwards. Or both tweets wired correctly, but one of the full-range drivers is wired backwards.
