A word about CCS loading. I was a real fan of IXYS cascodes - great bass and clarity - until I compared it directly with choke loading, which was smoother and revealed the CCS had a perceptible hardness. Not sure what that was about but I stopped using the CCS. Even a resistor was preferred by my ears - the bass was more indistinct and it was slightly veiled but the smoothness was right there. I didn't scope it for oscillations, but I did use 1K gate stoppers right on the pins so I constructed it correctly.
