Hi,
Thats really funny, I always find that the power supply first (by a wide margin), layout and wiring next, makes the biggest difference in all the DHT amps I've ever built for myself.
I believe a really good amp builder can get the amp to do music, and not have an amp sound like ANY specific tubes at all, but it should sound like music.
Wonder how come our experiences are so different??
