"Putting aside the current rating, have you measured this amp's B+ voltages with the 46 in place? I'm afraid it is running very hard in this 45 circuit, without modification."
The 46 tube will have a lower plate current in a 45 circuit. If the tube is put in a fixed bias amp made for a 45 The negitive grid bias of about
-55 has to be lowerd to about -35 for the 46 to get sufficient plate
current. In cathode bias the 46 will draw less current through the cathode
resistor causing less voltage drop across the resistor in turn lowering
the bias voltage wich will bring up the plate current to close to the
proper current for the 46.The B+ voltage might com up a little du to the lower plate current.
I hope that was a understandable explanation.
